Privacy
The British Banner is operated by Football News UK Ltd, company number 12060029, registered in England and Wales. Registered office: 167-169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London, England, W1W 5PF. This notice explains what personal data this website handles. It was last updated on 4 October 2026.
What this site collects
Reading the site needs no account. The site has no analytics, advertising or newsletter, and sets no cookies for ordinary visitors. If you create a free account, or comment, we collect what is described under Accounts and comments below. Fonts are served from our own site, not from a third party.
Server logs and hosting
The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like any web host, the server records technical data about each request, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, for security and reliability.
Site verification
We have placed a Google AdSense site-verification meta tag in the page header. It is a tag only. No advertising code runs on this site at present.
Contact form
If you use the form on our Contact page, we collect the name, email address, subject and message you type in. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a spam check run by Cloudflare, Inc. When the Contact page loads, your browser connects to Cloudflare to run the check, and Cloudflare receives technical data such as your IP address and browser details. We set no cookies ourselves, and no cookie is placed by this form on our domain. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy. Your message is sent by email to info@thebritishbanner.co.uk and is read by the team at Football News UK Ltd, which operates this site. We do not keep contact messages in the website database, and the form does not track you. We use what you send only to read and reply to your message and to handle any correction or complaint. Our practice is to keep contact messages in that mailbox for 12 months and then delete them.
Accounts and comments
If you create a free account we collect your name, your email address and a password (stored only in scrambled form), plus the date you agreed to this notice. We use them to run your account, send your confirmation and account emails, and attribute comments or drafts you submit. Comments are open to signed-in members and show your chosen name. They appear straight away unless an automatic check or a moderator holds them for review. Contributors’ drafts are read by an editor before anything is published. Account emails are sent from noreply@thebritishbanner.co.uk. We set one login cookie when you sign in; it is removed when you sign out or close the browser. We keep account details until you ask us to delete them, then delete them within 30 days. Sign-up, sign-in and the contact form use Cloudflare Turnstile, which receives technical data such as your IP address and browser details; Cloudflare handles it under its own policy. Continue with Google. If you choose Continue with Google, Google receives your sign-in request and shares your name and email address with us. We do not receive your Google password, and we use your Google profile photo only as your account picture, which is shown to you on your account page and nowhere else on the site. We keep its web address, not a copy. We take no other Google data. Google handles its side under its own privacy policy. Football News UK Ltd is the operator and responsible for this data. To see, correct or delete your data, email info@thebritishbanner.co.uk with the subject “Privacy request”.
If you report a comment, we keep a record of which member reported it, so one person cannot report the same comment twice and so we can review it. If you delete your own comment it is moved to our Trash and removed from the page. Comments we remove for abuse are kept in a private log for review.
If you email info@thebritishbanner.co.uk, we use the details you send us only to read and reply to your message and to handle any correction or complaint. Please do not send passwords, financial details or unnecessary sensitive personal information.
Membership, payments and profile pictures
Paid membership (Friend, Supporter, Patron) is optional. Payments are taken by PayPal. Your card and PayPal details never reach us. The PayPal button loads only when you press Subscribe, and at that point your browser connects to PayPal, which handles that data and any cookies under its own privacy policy. We keep your membership level, its dates and your PayPal subscription reference to run your account and to cancel or change your plan. If you cancel, we keep that record for as long as the law requires us to keep accounting records.
You can add a profile picture on your account page. It is resized and stored on our own server, shown only to you on your account page, and removed when you press Remove or delete your account.
Your rights
You can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. To make a request, email info@thebritishbanner.co.uk with the subject “Privacy request”.
Changes
We will update this notice if the site starts using analytics, advertising, a newsletter or other services that handle personal data.
Newsletter
If you tick the box in our sign-up form, we collect your email address, the date and time you agreed, and a one-way (hashed) version of your IP address as proof of consent. We use these only to send you the The British Banner newsletter, news and offers. Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email, or by contacting us.
We keep your details until you unsubscribe. After that we keep your email address on a suppression list so that we do not email you again. Your newsletter details are stored in this website’s own database with our hosting provider (Hostinger), which acts as our processor. We do not share them with anyone else, and we do not share them with our other websites. We do not currently use a separate email-sending service; if we start to, we will name it here.
